Matt Damons mom says: "It's stupid. It wont tell you anything. And it will just make him nervous..."
Ok, so this has nothing to do with online learning or visual language, BUT I thought since we are doing an education degree you guys might like to see this :) Here's Matt Damon talking about his hate of standardized tests- do you agree?? I do :)
Hi Lindsay, I am not a teacher, but as a parent I am glad the school my children attend does not put too much focus on the Naplan test. My nephew (grade 3) attends a different school where a lot of time was put into preparation for the test - he became quite stressed and depressed during this time. (His teacher was also quite stressed also)
Definitely! I was never good at reading as a kid, and those tests made me nervous- i never did great on them, but was always an A/B student...I dont think its a very accurate representation of what a student knows. My mom sucked at tests too, she would just get bad anxiety and nearly fail, but wasnt a bad student-
obviously we need SOME way to monitor students progress, im not going to pretend i have the answers, but i feel like research needs to go into finding a different method
It's funny. I thought of you posting this earlier today... because it comes up ALL the time. I think the amount of press Damon has gotten for this comment is more than all the empirical evidence saying it's not a measure of achievement.... siiigh. ;-)
hahah, TOO true! i never heard of his activism before i posted it, but hey, if its getting people to listen, im for it! then again- as soon as i mentioned this to my friends they all interrupted me going 'matt daaaaaaaaaaaaaaamooonnn...' and didnt hear my point anyway! hahah gotta love Team America :P
